Weeding Policy

The Gilbertville Public Library strives to maintain a collection that meets the communitys needs. In order to do so the library should wee on a regular basis. Weeding increases the quality and use of the librarys collection and improves the efficiency of resources.

Criteria for weeding: Damaged or poor physical condition, replaced materials, outdated information, duplicates, lack of use, and scratched and incomplete audiovisual materials.

Materials should not be discarded if they are of historical significance, classics, works by local authors or a memorial gift. Memorial gifts and works by local authors may be returned to the donor if space is needed.

Discarded materials may be recycled to the book sale or disposed of at the community-recycling center.
